According to You by Orianthi. This song has been ringing in my head for quite some time. I love the play of words. While reflecting on the lyrics, a thought came to mind. The singer is representing a battle between good and evil. (Okay, I’m going way, way deep? Disclaimer: This is my personal interpretation. *winks*)
Going back to the lyrics, I can imagine myself singing this song out loud to the devil. During those ‘dark’ times, you would believe what the devil was telling you; that you are stupid, useless, cannot possibly do anything right. The devil would tear your self-esteem apart. You’re difficult, hard to please, forever changing your mind. He would keep on reminding you that nobody can put up with a person like you.
But being an heir to the kingdom of God, the Lord will make way to let you see the light. And when you’re fully clothed with the light of His love, you’ll learn to appreciate the beauty within you; But according to Him, I’m beautiful, incredible, He can’t get me out of His head. For God will never forsake you, He will never get you out of His grip out of His head. According to Him, I’m funny irresistible, everything He ever wanted. You will learn to appreciate that you bring joy to God simply by abiding in his love, and God cannot resist your pleadings and prayers especially if it’s for your own good. You are perfect, everything He ever wanted for a daughter, a son, because you were created in His image and likeness.
According to me, you’re stupid, you’re useless, you can’t do anything right. And when tempted, keep reminding yourself that the devil will have no use in your life, no place to occupy for you have been enveloped in God’s redeeming love. The devil will never do anything right.
Keep on repeating the lines to yourself and imagine God is affirming You, According to Him, I’m beautiful, incredible, he can’t get me put of his head… I’m funny, irresistible, everything He ever wanted…
